Ingredients

For the Wings
  • 1 can cooking spray
  • 2 pounds chicken wingettes or wingettes and drumettes defrosted if frozen
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Seasoning Mix
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika optional (use more regular ground paprika to substitute)
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin optional
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper optional

Equipment

  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, and spray with cooking spray.
  2. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. In a large bowl, toss the wings with vegetable oil until evenly coated.
  3. In a small bowl, combine all the seasoning mix ingredients: brown sugar, paprika, smoked paprika (if using), salt, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin (if using), and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well.
  4. Add the seasoning mix to the bowl with the chicken wings. Toss until the wings are thoroughly coated with the seasoning.
  5. Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they are not overcrowded, as this will help them crisp up.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your crispy, flavorful chicken wings!

Notes

For extra crispy wings, you can increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) during the last 10-15 minutes of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning. You can also broil them for a minute or two at the end for added crispiness.
