Method
- Cut each chicken breast into thin, flat pieces. Aim for pieces that are not bite-sized but resemble thin chicken breasts. For example, if you have two chicken breasts in a one-pound package, cut each into 3-4 thin pieces. Pat the chicken breasts dry if they are very moist.
- In a bowl, toss the spices together until well mixed. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the chicken pieces. Add the avocado oil and toss thoroughly to coat the chicken. You can rest the chicken briefly, but it can also go straight into the air fryer.
- Preheat your air fryer. Arrange the seasoned chicken in an even layer on the air fryer basket or grate, ensuring there is space for air to circulate. Air fry at 415 degrees F (213 degrees C) for 10 minutes. If your chicken pieces are larger, increase the cooking time to around 13 minutes. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
- Let the chicken rest for a moment. Slice and enjoy. The chicken should be crispy on the outside, flavorful, and juicy.
Notes
Salt adjustment: For 1 pound of chicken breasts, use 3/4 teaspoon table salt. For 1.5 pounds, use 1 teaspoon table salt. If using coarse kosher salt, use 1 teaspoon for 1 pound of chicken breasts.
Marinating: You can marinate the chicken with spices for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Add cornstarch just before air frying for best results.
Paprika: The recipe uses standard ground paprika for flavor and color. Smoked paprika can be used in small amounts for a richer flavor, but avoid overwhelming the dish.
Seasoning alternative: McCormick Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning blend can be used. For 1 pound of chicken, use about 1 tablespoon of this blend in place of the paprika, salt, onion, and garlic powders. Add cornstarch and brown sugar.
Gochujang Dipping Sauce: Mix 1/2 cup mayonnaise with 2 tablespoons gochujang sauce, 1 clove grated garlic, soy sauce, and a dash of rice vinegar. Season with salt and pepper.
