- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Cream together the brown sugar, butter, and white sugar in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
- Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir this dry mixture into the sugar mixture until it is well blended.
- Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, walnuts (if using), and coconut until everything is evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Drop the dough by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes for a chewy cookie, or bake for 14 minutes for a firmer cookie.
- Cool the cookies for 1 minute on the cookie sheets. Then, remove them to a wire rack to cool completely. Store the cooled cookies in a tightly sealed container.
