Spider Toast & Fruit Bats

Ingredients
  

For the Spider Toast
  • 1 piece Whole wheat toast Gluten-free if desired
  • 2 tablespoons Homemade Nutella Chocolate hummus can be substituted
  • 2 tablespoons Homemade cashew icing Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting or cinnamon vanilla fruit dip can be substituted
For the Fruit Bats
  • 1 Medjool date Pitted
  • 6 pieces Pretzel twists Broken to create legs, gluten-free option available

Equipment

  • Toaster
  • Knife
  • Squeeze bottle with fine tip (optional)

Method
 

  1. Lightly toast one piece of bread.
  2. Spread Nutella over the toast to cover it completely.
  3. Use a fork or a squeeze bottle with a fine tip to create a spider web design with the cashew icing.
  4. Halve the pitted Medjool date lengthwise to make the spider's body and place it on the web.
  5. Break the pretzel twists to form small legs. Add six pieces, three on each side of the date. Enjoy!

Notes

This recipe was inspired by a rainy October afternoon with neighborhood kids. It shows that food can be fun and simple, made with good company and imagination.
